WorkCover: A Neo-liberal Makeover download_trans.gif Download

Description:

In June 2008, the South Australian Labor Government introduced the most comprehensive raft of changes to the state’s workers’ compensation legislation since the inception of the WorkCover scheme in 1987. The major provisions of the legislation aimed at reducing workers’ entitlements and ability to challenge WorkCover claims decisions, in accordance with the neoliberal paradigm championed by Victoria’s Liberal Coalition Government in the early 1990s. The rationale and proposals for Labor’s WorkCover Agenda were provided in a report prepared by the WorkCover Board and publically released in 2006. This article critically reviews this report and situates it within the context of contemporary neoliberal approaches to workers’ compensation in Australia.
