‘The Foundations of Australia 's Economic Boom 1992-?'

Buy till you dropOver the past decade, the Australian national economy has experienced successive years of economic growth, a significant decline in official unemployment, and relatively low inflation. Such features are regularly referred to as ‘unprecedented' by the government and by many within the media, and are often invoked to provide evidence of the virtues of ‘liberalisation' and ‘economic reform'.

It is intended to publish a special edition of JAPE which will more carefully examine the political, economic, social and historical factors that underpin Australia 's economic boom.

Illustrative questions include (but are not limited to): How can the boom be understood as historically specific and historically evolving? What conflicts and contradictions are evident in this process? What factors contribute to economic stability, instability and systemic cohesion? Which groups/interests are favoured? What is the significance of the of the boom's uneven geographical impact? How have the boom, and the factors which underpin it, reshaped Australian politics? What are the political economic prospects now?

Articles should be between 3,000-8,000 words and submitted by October 31, 2007 . The editors envisage a conference based upon these papers to be held in late 2007, comments from which will form the basis of revisions to articles for the special edition of JAPE in 2008.
